Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 iPhone, iPod & iPad Using Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 [Tutorial]

Back in the November the  iPhone Dev Team has released Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 firmware used in iPhone 4, iPad & iPod Touch. Here is my long overdue tutorial to jailbreak your iPhone/Ipad/Ipod Touch devices.

Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 can jailbreak following Apple mobile devices:

iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch 4G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G,  iPod touch 2G (MC Model) &  iPod touch 3G with the help of Cydia and MobileSubstrate .

This recent version of Redsn0w jailbreak tool uses Limera1n exploit instead of 24kpwn exploit used in earlier version of redsn0w tool to pwn all iOS devices for lifetime.You can jailbreak your devices using this tutorial  but you need to download it from the links below.

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 iPhone 4/ 3GS/3G, iPod touch 4G/3G/ 2G using Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 Tutorial

Step 1: Download iOS 4.2.1 and iTunes 10.1 for your version of iOS device (iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad)

Step 2: Update/Restore to iOS 4.2.1 firmware using the IPSW file you downloaded via iTunes 10.1 in the step above.

Step 3: Launch Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 and point it to iOS 4.1 to continue with the jailbreak.

Step 4: Redsn0w will now prepare the jailbreak data and then you will see the following screen.

Step 5:  Then Select “Install Cydia” and click “Next” as shows in following image of Redsnow 0.9.6b4

Step 6: Now before you click “Next” just make sure your device is both OFF.  Then a  screen will appear where you have to put your device in DFU mode by first hold “Power” and “Home” button for some seconds, then release the “Power” button while holding the “Home” button. Keep pressing it until you see a process start for installation.

Step 7: Now just wait patiently to installation get finished. Once the installation is done your device ( iPhone, iPod touch ) will get restarted automatically & you’ll come to following screen.

This Step is ONLY For iPhone 4, 3GS (New Bootrom), iPod touch 4G / 3G / 2G, iPad Users :
Step 8: Whenever you want to SSH into your device, you must use “Just boot tethered right now” option in Redsn0w on every reboot.

And That’s it guys, your iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone or iPod touch is jailbroken successfully with Redsn0w 0.9.6b4. Check out the compatible Cydia apps list which you can install now after jailbreaking.
