5 Pieces of Tech that Every College Student Needs

The years you spend in college can be some of the best years of your life. For most, this is the first time you’re living away from home and experiencing your first taste of independence. This is an exciting time, and as you enter this phase of life, you’ll want to make sure that you have these 5 pieces of technology to help you out.

Smartphone

Yes, having a smartphone sounds like a no-brainer, but this is actually really important! If you have an older phone or one that doesn’t allow you to easily access the Internet, it’s strongly recommended that you look into upgrading before starting college. Between late nights on campus, going out with friends, and being able to conduct video calls with loved ones, having a reliable phone is key.

Additionally, make sure you have a durable phone case to protect your phone. At some point, you’ll likely drop your phone, and having a case can save you hundreds down the line! Plus, picking out a phone case can be pretty fun, or you can even customize one and create a picture phone case.

Laptop

Gone are the days when note taking in classes is done with pen and paper. Sure, you can still do this, but using a laptop to type up notes in your lectures is much more efficient. Most laptops also have the ability to record audio, so if you sit close enough to your professor, you could consider recording the class.

With the amount of papers you’ll write and research you’ll conduct, having a laptop is pretty much a necessity for every college student.

USB Drive

Thumb Drives are insanely useful for college. If you need to go to the library to print your 20-page research paper, you can easily upload it to your USB stick and get it printed. It’s also a great way to share files quickly and easily with classmates for group projects. Bonus? They’re small enough to fit in your pocket, and they even have some that can attach to your keychain!

Noise Cancelling Headphones

The key here is “noise cancelling.” Whether you’re trying to crank through homework in your dorm while your roommate is blasting music, or you’re at the library cramming for your finals, having a pair of headphones that can cancel out the surrounding noise is a game changer.

Even though it is more expensive to get headshots with noise cancellation, it’s definitely worth it. As a pro tip, consider getting the “over the ear” headphones as well, because they are more comfortable. Your ears will thank you when you end up wearing the headphones for hours on end.

Portable Charger

There’s not much worse than having your phone battery die on you in the middle of a busy school day. Sure, you shouldn’t be on your phone in the middle of class, but sometimes, you can’t help texting your friends about the upcoming sorority or frat events. Get a portable charger that can easily fit in your laptop bag so that you never need to worry about your phone battery dying again.

These are also really useful to bring along if you go off campus for the day or night and won’t be near an outlet.

Conclusion

Before you head off to college, be sure to pack your bags with these 5 pieces of tech. You’ll probably end up using most of these (if not all) on a daily basis!
