8 Steps to Create Your Own App

So, you’ve made the decision to create your own app. Congratulations! You will soon be able to see your ideas brought to life, and what could be more exciting than that?

However, don’t crack open the champagne just yet. You have a lot of work to do first.

Creating your own app is no easy task, but it can be done as long as you know what key steps you need to undertake, what tools can be used to speed up and improve the process, plus the ability to recognize when you need professional help.

Anyway, let’s start at the beginning.

Step One: Put Pen to Paper

Before you even think about the digital process of creating your app, you first need a clear and tangible definition of how exactly it is going to work.

For example, this includes what it will look like, what features it will have and what your USP will be. This is also a vital stage for getting rid of any features that will not add value to your app.

Step Two: Check Out Your Competitors

This another vital step — is there a demand for your app? How many other apps are offering the same or a similar service? How much can you realistically charge for your app?

Thorough market research is a key component in the success, or failure, of your app.

Step Three: Create a Digital Mock-Up

Creating a mock-up of your app before you start to actually build it can be extremely helpful. You should focus on the app’s layout, the user interface and the overall flow.

It is better to spot and correct any issues now, rather than once you start building it.

Step Four: Make a Graphic Design

This step can either be done yourself, or you can hire a professional graphic designer. It depends on how confident you are in both your design capabilities and your technical skills.

The design of your app is very important, so if in doubt, hire an experienced graphic designer.

Step Five: Build Your Landing Page

It can be easy to overlook this crucial step and start immediately building your app. However, even if it is the best one in the world, if people can’t find it, then it will flop.

Your landing page is your opportunity to interact and connect with your audience, and should include:

  • A catchy headline
  • A video explaining what you are about
  • An app screenshot
  • A call to action
  • A list of features
  • An ‘About Us’ section

Step Six: Build Your App

This step should be easier now that you have already laid the groundwork with the above steps. You will need Xcode and Swift to successfully build your app, splitting it into two development categories — front-end development (the parts of the app you can see) and back-end (the parts you can’t see).

You may wish to undertake an iOS development course beforehand if you struggle with code.

Step Seven: Test Your App

Arguably one of the most important steps is to make sure your app actually works before it goes to market. From function testing, checking that it’s secure, to testing your payment section — all of these are vital if you want your app to be a success.

Step Eight: Launch Your App

You have finally made it. It is now time to launch in the app store! This process is fairly straight forward and you are only moments away from your app being downloadable.

Simply:

  • Use App Store Connect to prepare your app’s title and meta data
  • Use Xcode to upload your app to the App Store
  • Wait for Apple to review and approve your app
  • That’s it!! Your app is now live and can be downloaded and installed

Congratulations!!!
