The Hottest Announcements of E3 2018

E3, or the Electronic Entertainment Expo, is a massive gathering of hardware manufacturers, software developers and publishers from the gaming industry who, for one weekend every year, get together and present new and upcoming titles, games and hardware to the attendees. These generally turn out to be massive fans of video games, retailers within the video game industry as well as video game press. The expo has been a source of huge announcements in previous years and this year has been the same.

The gaming industry and its supporters have grown significantly, thanks in large part to rapid development of the internet, online gaming platforms such as Steam, and even the fact that more people are playing online via gaming servers, often found through the likes of 1&1. It’s for this reason that an expo the size of E3 is required to make announcements and drop the hottest gaming news.

It’s the crème de la crème of expos when it comes to gaming, one that’s revered and anticipated each year as attendees eagerly try and guess what new surprises are coming to the world of gaming. 2018 was no different.

Cyberpunk 2077

From the same people that produced and published The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 is a highly anticipated science-fiction title which looks set to promise incredible graphics, gameplay, and a neon dystopia which the public has been crying out for ever since the new Blade Runner film hit the cinemas. CD Projekt Red, the studio responsible for the game, released a short trailer that presented a dark, technology-saturated future that was both disturbing and beautiful. Fans won’t have to wait long either; it looks as though the game will be released in early 2019.

Fallout 76

A game that hardly needs any introduction, Fallout is a series of post-apocalyptic role-playing games that have been making giant waves in the gaming world since the introduction of the first title in 1997. 21 years and numerous sequels later, developers announced that Fallout 76 will be hitting the shelves on November 14 of this year. Unlike previous Fallout titles, 76 is set in the (relatively) close future of 2102. Also unlike previous titles, Fallout 76 will no longer be a solely single player game but will also feature online multiplayer, allowing you to navigate the wasteland with additional players.

Gears of War 5

Hot news from Microsoft – Gears of War 5 is picking up where the previous title left off, some 25 years after the events of the original trilogy. While the details are a little hazy at the moment, it’s likely that the player will take the role of original Gears of War protagonist Marcus Fenix. The game is due to drop in 2019 and, considering this is Microsoft’s crown jewel when it comes to gaming, will likely only be available exclusively on Xbox.

Elder Scrolls 6

While there was no trailer to accompany the announcement, games giant Bethesda dropped the news that the sixth title in the Elder Scrolls series was in development, confirming rumors without providing a release date. While the announcement is pretty barebones, it’s still epic for one reason: we know that the next Elder Scrolls title is coming, which is something that Oblivion and Skyrim fans have been frothing for a long time since the last release in 2010. Although everyone is still in the dark about most of the details, rest assured that it’ll still be some time before the game hits the shelves. As for what devices you can play it on, it’s probably a safe bet that it’ll be supported by PC and the latest and most popular consoles.

Doom Eternal

It seems that 2018 is the year for sequels (especially from Bethesda) as the relaunch of the Doom franchise gets its successor. Doom Eternal, like Elder Scrolls 6, comes with paltry information attached. However, what we do know is that the game is coming. If it’s anything like the 2016 title, it’s going to be fast-paced, action-packed, alien-swarmed and blaring some of the best metal music around. The trailer didn’t reveal much, but it did show the eponymous Doom Guy (that’s his name, for real), crushing a skull beneath his foot amidst a hellish landscape festooned with aliens, terrible monsters and other baddies. Worth waiting for? Hell yes.
