How Competitive Gaming Became A World Beater

In past few decades, many people have been astonished to see video games overtake music and movies to become the biggest grossing entertainment form. However, it seems that video gaming is showing no signs of slowing down as it now has conventional sports in its sights with the rise of competitive gaming.

Competitive gaming, or eSports, has captured the public’s attention due to the massive competitions that take place in huge sporting arenas that have started to be featured in mainstream media outlets such as terrestrial television stations and online betting sites.

The concept of competitive gaming first took off with the advent of broadband technologies in Korea at the turn of the century. But since then it has blossomed into a hugely lucrative industry that regularly attracts massive multinational sponsors and increasingly professionalised gamers.

As a result many games developers are increasingly designing games with competitive gaming in mind. Some have attributed the success of Call of Duty: Black Ops III to its exposure in the eSports arena, and as such the ability for a game be be adapted to the increasingly popular competitive gaming world is becoming a clear priority.

Many of the popular online battle arena games such as Dota 2 and League of Legends have enjoyed phenomenal success in the competitive gaming realm. And as a result, online sites such as Betway now offer an increased range of gaming titles as many would be questioning which other betting sites are covering CSGO? The growing popularity of online gaming TV channels such as Twitch.tv also highlights how fragmented the eSports market has become.

The rise of professional streamers illustrates how many amateur gamers have taken the new technologies into their own hands to raise impressive revenues and develop their gaming careers. And as such, a mini-industry has sprung up that features brands such as Matcherino helping gaming fans to fund the endeavours of their favourite gaming stars.

Seeing as there are increasingly huge amounts of money circulating in the eSports world, it was only a matter of time before some major businesses took advantage of the growing trend. Already companies such as ESPN have launched their own competitive gaming platform that aims to introduce eSports to mainstream sports audiences.

And with the introduction of competitive gaming coaches, agents and analysts alongside sports betting sites, it looks like eSports’ time has truly come.
