Samsung Galaxy Y Vs Galaxy W Mid-Budget Smartphones Comparison

If you are looking for a competent mid-range phone then frankly speaking there are not many options for your choice. If we talk about Samsung Galaxy W, then it has been a very good seller in the recent past while if you are looking at the cheaper option in Android, Galaxy Y is among the cheapest smart phone from Samsung.

Let us have a look at there comparison to understand it better which one you can choose for your requirement.

Display

Galaxy W 18150 is a 3.7 inch super LCD smart phone as compared to Galaxy Y which comes with 3.0 inches TFT capacitive touch screen. The resolution of Galaxy W screen is 480X800 pixels where has Galaxy only has resolution of 240X320 pixels. Both the smart phones have two touch sensitive buttons below the display along with the physical button and support multi touch. Galaxy as a middle end handset wins the display competition.

Operating System and UI:

Android Gingerbread 2.3 empower the Samsung Galaxy W with the Samsung UI, Touchwiz 4, where as Galaxy Y comes with 2.3.5 Gingerbread along with Touchwiz UI. Looking at the user experience and UI prospect for the common man both phone have similar interface, but as Galaxy Y offer this in low cost, it may be declared as the winner for this category.

Camera

The 5 mega pixel camera in the rear which records HD video at 720p along with secondary VGA camera for video calling is installed in the Galaxy W. On the other hand Samsung Galaxy has 2 Mega pixel cameras at the resolution of 1600X1200 pixels which is not capable of recording high definition videos, although it records at 480p. There is also no VGA camera in Galaxy Y.  Galaxy W also has LED flash which is absent in the Samsung Galaxy Y. Clearly it can be seen that Galaxy W is the winner here.

Memory

In terms of Memory, Galaxy W has 2GB of internal memory and it also supports the extendable memory up to 32 GB via microSD card. On the other hand Galaxy Y comes with 160 MB of internal memory and external memory extendable up to 32GB via mircoSD card. Again no dount in this that Galaxy W provides better memory options.

Connectivity

Talking about connectivity, Galaxy W has two HSDPA bands: 900/2100 which provides the max speed up to 14.4Mbps. Galaxy Y also has similar band on HSDPA and has support up to 7.2 Mbps on HSDPA. WiFi feature is same in both the handsets supporting the latest band of Wi-Fi, the 802.11n/b/g. GSM band 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 are also available on both the smart phones. Both the devices are GPS enabled and also have Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP support. Connectivity speed is higher in Galaxy W and it is on the higher strand as compared to Galaxy Y.

Battery and Processor

In terms of Battery and talk time, both Galaxy W and Y come with 1500mAh battery which provides talk time of 6 hours 20 min and standby time of 17 hours on 2G.

In Galaxy W there is 512 MB RAM along with the processor speed of 1.4 GHz powered by Adreno 205 GPU and it comes with Hummingbird chipset. On the other hand Galaxy Y comes with 832 MHz ARM 11 processor which gets the power though Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset.

Price

Price of Samsung Galaxy Y is Rs. 7350 in India & price of Galaxy W is yet to be announced, but it will be definitely more than Galaxy Y ! (So this factor is not really comparable yet)

Our Verdict

Galaxy W provides excellent specifications and it also has very few competitors in its price segment while Galaxy Y is among the cheapest handset and has been selling well in India. Galaxy W is indeed the best handset especially when you are looking for middle end device and if you are looking for good features in low price, Galaxy Y can be the beauty in your hand.
