BIS- DSCI ‘International Meetings and Conference on Cyber Security and Privacy Standards’

31st October 2015: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the national standards body of India in collaboration with Data Security Council of India (DSCI), a premier industry body on cyber security and data protection organized ‘International Conference on Cyber Security and Privacy Standards’ as a the culmination of the discussions held during the five days of ISO SC 27 working group meetings at Jaipur from 26-30 October 2015. This is the first time that an international meeting on information security standards is being held in India.

Standards have been bringing much business impact in various industry including telecom and ICT, but as the threats are expanding each day, standards or making of standards in the cyber security is a much daunting and complex task, hence and harmonized and collaborative efforts from various sectors and bodies are required to address the emerging technologies in this area. I am glad an assertive step in this area has already been started which will help India programs of ‘Digital India’ and ‘Make in India’.”

These Working Group meetings were good step to bring together eminent minds from across the world to discuss the possible standardization solutions in the field of IT Security. Over 250 experts discussed and deliberating  on  forging international standards on Privacy, Security and Risk management in IoT, Cloud Computing and many other contemporary technologies, along with updating of a few existing standards. The conference attracted over 150 experts from the 50 countries and over 70 information security and privacy experts from India who actively contributed in the standard development process. These experts through the five working groups, namely Information Security Management Systems;Cryptography and Security Mechanisms; Security Evaluation, Testing and Specification; Security Controls and Services; andIdentity Management and Privacy technologies; competence of security management professionals -discussed and collaborated on the development of standards encompassing generic methods, techniques and guidelines to address both security and privacy issues. It discussed emerging areas including cyber insurance, network security applications security and other sectoral standards including aviation, healthcare and other broad spectrum of standards for the industry to adopt.
