Manipal University Gears Up to Host its very First Manipal International Literature and Arts Platform – MILAP 2017

Manipal University, one of the leading Private Universities in India is gearing up to host a first-of-its kind literature festival – Manipal International Literature and Arts Platform (MILAP), a platform to celebrate art in various forms – literary, performing, visual, and cinematic. Scheduled to take place from September 15-17th at Manipal University, Manipal the three day art extravaganza aims to promote appreciation of art, literature and culture, the fest will be inaugurated by Jnanpith laureate Chandrashekara Kambara at 10 am on September 15. Renowned Kannada writer, Vaidehi, will be the Guest of Honour for the event and Dr H Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor of Manipal University will preside.

The fest will comprise a series of curated events across different genres, languages and art forms like translation workshops, Film Festival, Art Exhibition, Cultural evenings themed around theatre, music and dance as well as book fairs to name few. Interactive sessions will see panel discussions with reputed theatre personalities and artists from across India.
 
Chief Convenor of MILAP, Dr Neeta Inamdar said: “It is a platform for a gathering and celebration of the arts – literary, performing, visual, and cinematic – in a unique University setting imbued with inclusive atmosphere and cosmopolitan spirit”.
 
She went on to add, “What distinguishes MILAP from mainstream literary festivals is the forging of a sustained engagement between rasika and artiste in a thoughtful, non-commercial space. The concept itself is borne out of Manipal University’s long-standing efforts to promote appreciation of literature and culture, whether through the prolific publishing activities of Manipal University Press, which recently crossed its hundredth book release, or the dynamic initiatives of the TMA Pai Chair for Indian Literature”.

“The campus setting helps prioritize intensive learnings and dialogues between writers and readers and amongst writers themselves too. MILAP is open free of cost to the local community as well as readers and art lovers from across the country,” she added.
