A career in computing makes a lot of sense; it is the most up and coming industry with new innovations happening all the time. It’s exciting and if you are looking for something interesting to do with your life when it comes to your career, computing and its many, many different options is certainly a good way to go.

There is a huge amount of choice, so you will need to do a lot of research about exactly which career you want and what direction you want to go in. Then you will need to work towards that goal. Here are some of the options that you might want to consider.

Software Developer

A software developer is someone who designs the apps and other programs that are used by so many people on a day to day basis. It is extremely important, and an area that is only going to grow with time. If you are looking for jobs with a computer science degree requirement, then software developer will allow you to use your qualifications, plus it is a creative job so you can use your imagination and ensure that no two days are the same.

It’s not something that just anyone can walk into, however. As well as the computer science degree, you will need to understand a variety of different computer languages as well, and, if you start up by yourself, you’ll need plenty of funding too. The good news is that it is estimated that this industry will grow by around 22 percent by the year 2022 so if you’re happy to work for someone else then you’re sure to find a position that suits you.

Computer Systems Analyst

To become a computer systems analyst, you will need either an information technology degree or a computer science degree. It would also be useful if you have a good understanding of how business works since the whole aim of the job is to create systems for businesses so that they can run a lot more smoothly. An understanding of business will help you to create these systems in such a way that they become something the business owner just can’t manage without.

By 2022, this industry is expected to have a 25 percent growth, so if you want to combine computing and business and you want your ideas to make a real difference in the everyday working lives of people just like you, this could be a good choice.

Computer And Information Systems Manager

A computer and information systems manager (CIS manager) commands a hefty salary of around $120,000 a year, so if you’re looking for a well-paying computer job then choosing this direction can be what you are looking for.

Of course, it is unlikely you will be able to start at management level, but it can take as little as five years to work up to the top position. For career progression, good money, and an interesting job to do on a daily basis, this ticks a lot of boxes, and you can make the most of the degree you worked so hard to obtain.

Computer And Information Research Scientists

For this career, you will need more than a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate too. However, if you can obtain this qualification, then a career as a research scientist could be something you look into.

A computer research scientist will be tasked with solving extremely complex problems in all kinds of industries; if the industry uses computers, then it may well have the need to hire a research scientist. The more the company relies on computers, the more important it is to solve these problems as quickly as possible, and that’s why computer research scientists are in such high demand.

Computer Network Architect

What is it that a computer network architect does? These professionals are the people who work out complicated connections between different users in a network, or between different businesses, linking them up for a greater overall experience.

Although it is a fairly new career, thanks to new technology that is coming out and starting to be used, it is going to be in huge demand as time goes on. Additionally, due to the demand of the public expecting to be able to connect all of their devices, to connect businesses to make shopping online and offline easier, and much more, this job is very in-demand.

Database Administrator

It may not sound like a particularly interesting career because, when you think of databases, they aren’t that exciting, but there is a lot to be said for being a database administrator. You can manage the information – and the capacity for information – that businesses can hold using specific software. You might even design the software yourself.

So now you can see just how interesting this career might actually be. You’ll need experience in building complex databases, and you’ll need a degree too, so if this is something you are interested in, gaining as much experience as possible while you are earning your degree is essential.

Web Developer

For those who do want to be self-employed and enjoy the freedom that comes with it, becoming a freelance web developer is going to appeal. Every business – and plenty of individuals – need websites. Or they need their current websites updating. That’s where a web developer is going to be needed; they will create a user-friendly, interesting, attractive website that works in the way it is meant to. No two days are every going to be the same in this job, and that is why it is appealing to many.

Another potential plus is that you won’t necessarily need a degree to start this career. Experience is more important in this case, which is a rarity in computer-related industries. Bear in mind, however, that being a web developer doesn’t pay quite as high as many of the other careers on the list, but it has plenty more plus points so don’t let that put you off.
