Asus Zenfone 3 Max Long Term Usage Review!

Asus Max has been a great selling smartphone in all the three Zenfone series it has been updated. The secret of Max being so successful for Asus, in my point of view, is that it is a perfect mixture of performance and battery backup with great pricing. I’ve been using this smartphone for over six months now and here is my long term usage review.

Asus Zenfone 3 Max Performance

After the Zenfone 3 flagship by Asus, the Max is my personal favorite. It offers decent performance and a great battery backup, perfect for a normal user. I’m using my Zenfone 3 Max (ZC553KL) for over 6 months now and I have nothing to complain of.

The build quality is very good. I accidentally dropped it a few times till now, but the smartphone hasn’t had a scratch yet. The 5.5-inch IPS display is a treat to watch movies and other videos. Speaker quality is good but I always use a headphone.

Fresh Android works smooth but over the time it gets sluggish. This is true in other smartphones but the Zenfone 3 Max is an exception. In my 6 months of heavy usage, it doesn’t feel slow at all. It performs the same it did when it was brand new.

It still runs on Android Marshmallow and hasn’t got the Nougat update yet (no idea when that’s coming). I’ve installed too many apps and games and have uninstalled them after a while. Some of the data remain in the smartphone which causes the smartphone to lag a bit. But I haven’t had any such issues yet.

I enjoy extended gaming sessions which are only possible due to its enormous battery capacity. It’s a yay for the gamers and also for people who travel too much. It always has a good signal strength even though I’m using 2 sim cards at once. Both the sim’s work fine and there are no specific issues that are faced by dual-sim smartphone users. Voice quality is good over the network and noise cancellation is great.

Camera

Using the 16 MP rear camera of the Zenfone 3 Max has been fun. It’s not the best camera in the market right now but does the job well. It captured good images in daylight and decent images in low light. At many moments, I just took out the smartphone, clicked a random picture and went on. Then when at the end of the day when I looked at that picture, it looked rather good.

Therefore, you don’t have to be a photographer to shoot good pictures. Anyone can click great images with the Zenfone 3 Max.

The front 8 MP camera is equally good. Clicking selfies has been fun and it did take great pictures in brightly lit conditions, it did suffer in low light. But overall, the picture quality is above average. So nothing to complain there.

Verdict

The Asus Zenfone 3 Max has still a price tag of over Rs 15,000. It is significant considering the fact that you get the flagship Asus Zenfone 3 (32 GB internal storage, 3GB RAM variant) at that price. The battery of this smartphone is phenomenal but I think Asus must aim it more at the budget segment. It’s a great smartphone but needs a lower price tag.
