iPhone 3GS Will Not Be Compatible With iOS 5?

The Worldwide Developers’ Conference and the launch of iOS 5 are drawing nearer, but iPhone 3GS owners shouldn’t be so happy. Eldar Murtazin, one of the people who test smartphone prototypes before they are even released, has informed in a short tweet that iOS 5 won’t run on iPhone 3GS.

So far, Murtazin has not been a reliable source for Apple rumors but he is recognized as an “oracle” when it comes to the smartphone market. This time, what he has stated about iOS 5 is pretty plausible, since iPhone 3G cannot run iOS 4.3 we could safely assume that iOS won’t run on iPhone 3GS. Thus, Apple could avoid compatibility issues between iPhone 3GS and iOS 5 even before the launch of the new iOS. The company has experienced scandals before, because of performance related issues between the iPhone 3G and iOS 4.

Sure, such a behavior from Apple would be critiqued by many, since it almost “obliges” you to leave old gadgets behind and embrace their new releases, thus making the Cupertino Company even more profitable. On the other hand, we must admit that with each product released, one can feel the evolution of technology.

No iOS 5 on Apple iPhone 3GS ?

It is unlikely and almost a certainty that iOS 5 will not run on iPhone 3G; and if Murtazin is right, then iPhone 3 GS or iPod Touch 3G won’t run on iOS 5 either.

iPhone 3GS has a lower RAM capacity and if iOS 5 brings new features, then a more powerful hardware is needed to run the features smoothly. Apart from technical issues, this move is can also be perceived as a selling technique.

iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G and iPad 2 will run iOS 5 but one question appears: Will the iPad tablet be able to run the new iOS version?
